Trends and issues in Education for Mathematical Sciences (SME3023)
This courses exposes students to the current issues in mathematics education. Among the issues covered are those related to achievement disparities between social groups,TIMSS (Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study), access and equity, language of instruction, teaching approaches, professional teaching standards, assessment, curriculum, teacher certification, school culture, usage of technology in teaching and learning and etnomathematics. Local as well as international issues are covered.
